ITF Men's Circuit

The ITF Men's Circuit is a series of professional tennis tournaments held around the world that are organized by the International Tennis Federation. The ITF Men's Circuit represents the lowest rung of the men's professional tennis ladder. ITF tournaments are incorporated into the ATP rankings, enabling young professionals to progress on to the ATP Challenger Tour and ultimately the full ATP World Tour. Nearly every professional player has spent some time on the ITF Men's Circuit.

Format

Originally, the ITF Men's Circuit consisted of satellite tournaments, each of which took place over four weeks. However, in the late 1990s, the ITF introduced Futures tournaments, allowing for greater flexibility in the organization of the tournaments for national associations, and participation in tournaments for players. Over time, the ratio of Futures tournaments to satellites increased until 2007, when satellites were eliminated entirely.

Futures tournaments allow for players to win career titles and improve their rankings. Futures are held in both singles and doubles, and last only one week. As of 2008, the prize fund for each tournament is either US$10,000 or US$15,000. Some tournaments also provide housing for participants. Futures usually have sizable qualifying draws, which allow unranked players to enter tournaments and earn ATP ranking points.

Futures (ISSN: 0016-3287) is an international, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal concerned with futures studies. It is published by Elsevier. The editor is Ted Fuller.

It is one of the journals that in the 1970s contributed to creating a debate on the topics of sustainable development.

Zinc

Zinc is a chemical element with symbol Zn and atomic number 30. It is the first element of group 12 of the periodic table. In some respects zinc is chemically similar to magnesium: its ion is of similar size and its only common oxidation state is +2. Zinc is the 24th most abundant element in Earth's crust and has five stable isotopes. The most common zinc ore is sphalerite (zinc blende), a zinc sulfide mineral. The largest mineable amounts are found in Australia, Asia, and the United States. Zinc production includes froth flotation of the ore, roasting, and final extraction using electricity (electrowinning).

Brass, which is an alloy of copper and zinc, has been used since at least the 10th century BC in Judea and by the 7th century BC in Ancient Greece. Zinc metal was not produced on a large scale until the 12th century in India and was unknown to Europe until the end of the 16th century. The mines of Rajasthan have given definite evidence of zinc production going back to the 6th century BC. To date, the oldest evidence of pure zinc comes from Zawar, in Rajasthan, as early as the 9th century AD when a distillation process was employed to make pure zinc.Alchemists burned zinc in air to form what they called "philosopher's wool" or "white snow".

Zinc (horse)

Zinc (1820–1840) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare, which in 1818 became the third filly to win both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket Racecourse and the Oaks at Epsom Downs Racecourse. As a three-year-old in 1823 she won three of her five starts, with her defeats coming against the classic-winning colts Nicolo and Emilius. She won both her races in 1824 but failed to win as a five-year-old in 1825 and was retired from racing.

Background

Zinc was a brown mare bred by her owner George FitzRoy, 4th Duke of Grafton at his stud at Euston Hall in Suffolk. Her dam Zaida had been bought by the Duke as a broodmare and proved to be highly successful: in addition to Zinc she produced the 1000 Guineas winner Zeal who in turn produced the filly Arab who won the same race in 1827. Her sire Woful was a brother of the Derby winners Whalebone and Whisker. He was also a successful stallion, siring the classic winners Arab, Theodore and Augusta (Epsom Oaks) before being exported to Prussia in 1832. Grafton sent the filly to be trained at Newmarket by Robert Robson, the so-called "Emperor of Trainers".

4CC (AM)

4CC is an Classic Hit / Talk Back Radio-formatted commercial radio station broadcasting to Central Queensland from Gladstone on 927 kHz AM.

History

4CC began broadcasting to the Central Queensland cities of Gladstone and Rockhampton in 1972 with the callsign 4CD, which remained it's name until November 1985 when the station was purchased by Wesgo Ltd - a network organisation which also owned prominent stations 4KQ in Brisbane and 2WS (now WSFM). For the remainder of the 80's, 4CC's format focused on the lucrative 25-39 age group, playing an Adult Contemporary music format. The station also maintained local programming from 5am-12am each day of the week. Prominent breakfast personalities during the 70's and 80's included Noel Roberts (who became station manager), Grant Cassidy, Dales Whyte, Iain Edwards and Chris Costello.

In the 1990s, 4CC broadcast a top 40 format, branded as Hot Hits 4CC, to distant itself from cross-town rival 4RO, which broadcast a classic hits format. In 1998, the station was purchased by DMG Regional Radio, and aligned to a classic hits format used by sister stations 4HI Emerald, 4ZR Roma, 4LM Mount Isa, 4GC Charters Towers, 4MK FM Mackay, 4CA FM Cairns, 4AM Mareeba and 4TO FM Townsville. The station used the slogan "The Best Songs of All Time"; all local programming outside of breakfast was scrapped in favour of syndicated programming from the network's Townsville hub.
